Choose your language
atode supports Japanese and Spanish. You choose one when you sign up and can add the other at any time.
At signup
Signing up is invite-only. When you open your invite, the first card asks What are you learning? — "Pick a language to start with. You can add more later." Choose Japanese or Spanish, then select Continue and fill in the Claim your seat form with a username, email, and password, or sign up with Google.
Add a language later
Open the account menu from your avatar (at the bottom of the side rail on a wide screen, or in the header on a phone). It lists the languages you are learning, with a tick beside the active one. Under the heading Add a language it lists the languages you have not started yet. Selecting one adds it and switches you to it.
Switch between languages
Selecting a language in the account menu switches the whole app to it. You see that language's library, practice, and search, so each language keeps its own lessons, vocabulary, and history.
What Spanish includes today
When you start Spanish, atode seeds an example lesson called "Example lesson — ¿Cómo te llamas?" (21 words and 3 sentences) so there is something to explore right away. Spanish verbs show full conjugation tables — present, preterite, imperfect, future, conditional, present subjunctive, imperfect subjunctive, imperative, and the non-finite forms. Practice includes flashcards, translation, and quiz, plus connector fill-in-the-blank — the prepositions por, para, a, and de — for Spanish.
Japanese keeps its Genki example lesson (28 words), conjugation tables, and
particle practice. The public grammar reference pages at /reference/ are
Japanese only for now, so Spanish grammar is available in your lessons for now.
