atode is a Japanese-language study tool that turns your lesson material into vocabulary, grammar notes, and practice. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have over it.

Who operates atode
atode is operated by Sapient Pearwood. The data controller for personal information processed under this policy is Sapient Pearwood.
What we collect
Account data
- Your email address and username, and optionally your first and last name.
- A password hash if you sign up with email. We never store your password in plain text.
- If you choose "Sign in with Google", Google shares your Google account identifier, email address, whether that address is verified, and your name. We use these to create or link your atode account, and you choose to share them each time you use Google sign-in.
Study material
- Lessons you add: pasted text, uploaded files (PDFs and images), and web-page or YouTube links.
- Notes you attach to a lesson.
- The vocabulary, grammar, and topics atode extracts from your material.
Practice
- Your practice sessions, answers, scores, and learning statistics.
Technical data
- Error reports (Sentry) and AI-pipeline traces (Langfuse), which help us fix bugs and understand AI processing. These may include fragments of the content being processed.
How we use data
- To run the service: prepare lessons, generate practice, and track progress.
- AI processing: the material you add is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to extract vocabulary and grammar and to generate practice.
- To email you account notices, such as your invite, via Resend.
- To keep the service reliable (Sentry error monitoring, Langfuse tracing).
How we share data
We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers, and only as needed to run atode:
- Anthropic — AI processing of your material.
- Langfuse — AI-pipeline observability.
- Sentry — error monitoring.
- Resend — transactional email.
- Hetzner — hosting and file storage.
- Neon — database hosting.
- Google — authentication, when you use Google sign-in.
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security.
Retention
- Your account and content are kept while your account is active.
- You can request deletion of your account and its content at any time.
- Error and trace data is kept only for a limited debugging window.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise any of these, email [email protected] and we will respond as required by law.
Security
We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
Children
atode is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
